Annual Trunk or Treat!

It's that time of the year again! It's a perfect and safe place (and doesn't have to be Sabbath day) for all children and adults alike. Drivers will show off their Halloween decoration in their trunk of the car and each of them will either trick you or treat you when you say "Trick or Treat!" Dress up and make sure you wear warm clothes, perhaps bring an umbrella just in case it rains. If you'd like to provide your vehicle and share the decoration and candies, there are parking spot available. Please contact me as soon as possible. Hope to see you all there!! {Baby Wipe Containers Use to store and organize just about anything. Arts and crafts supplies, sewing thread and needles, office supplies, pencils, pens, etc.

{Compact Discs Decorate with paper, ribbon, paint, etc. to make Christmas tree ornaments or door hangers. Use as coasters.

{Fabric Softener Sheets Use as stuffing for stuffed animals and decorative pillows. Reuse in your sock or underwear drawer to keep your clothes smelling fresh. Tear the sheets in half before using in the dryer to reduce the number of sheets you use. Wrap around a few clothes hangers in the closet to keep your clothes smelling fresh. Use to dust your house. Place inside shoes at night to keep them smelling fresh.

{Shower Curtain Use as a tarp for grills, wood, etc. Cover your table with the curtain while the kids are painting or playing with play-dough to make for easy clean-up. Cut and make into a curtain for the bathroom window. Line the trunk of your car with it when transporting dirty items. Use to cover your outdoor plants when the weather drops to freezing. How was the Stake Conference?

It was a good day. We had of about 10 people from the Deaf Branch to volunteer this event. Thank you to those who came and help out! It was a beautiful day. We worked in the shades and by the river. We loved the beauty of our nature that God has created for us to use and enjoy. We were assigned to make a path way in a circle around the nature playground for kids to play in it. We put special dirt around it and then pile up rocks to mark the path around the dirt. You'll see what I mean in the pictures. Later on, we had lunch provided by the Sacramento Fire Department. Thanks to them for giving us food and water. It was enjoyable. Here are some of the pictures and a video.

Mormon California History in Art

You are invited to a special exhibit by 70 artists from the Sacramento Temple District. This epic collection is displayed at the Folsom History Museum through May 9 and depicts Mormon contributions to California development.

Relief Society Dinner

Relief Society Birthday dinner with the hearing ward was very nice! We sisters, both hearing and deaf members, actually enjoyed it. First it started with some enjoyable dinner of mixed chicken, celery and some other veggie in stuffed bread wrap and many strawberry & spinach salad. Then dessert of chocolate apple cake. Thanks to the hearing ward for inviting us! It was very enjoyable and it looks like we brought more than plenty salads! During the dinner and dessert, we were able to enjoy watching the talent shows of sisters' talents such as baton leader, tap dancer, singers and a story telling of Emma Smith. It was amazing! We are pretty sure we felt the spirit there. Here are some of the photos and a video. I hope the sisters doesn't mind! The only person that wasn't in the pictures was Sister Croghan. She arrived later, but it was good to see her.

Sign up sheet will be provided at the Branch, please come to sign up to receive the special uniform to wear at the site. The goal for this event throughout California would be 75,000 people helping. We need up to 40 members in our Stake to attend the event. Hope you can come!

Please bring your own gloves, boots, long pants, long sleeves, shovels, rakes, hats, sunglasses. Brother Brady Ellsworth will provide some tools for us to borrow. Make sure to return to him the tools. Please label your name on items if it is yours!

Release forms will be handed out for both minors and adults.

The Park Admin at 8:00am will provide short classes/training/instructions before we begin our physical tasks.

Please circle your calendars for Saturday, May 8. Branch members age 12 and up will have the opportunity to get some exercise from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a chance to volunteer, spend some time outdoors, and make a positive difference by helping to clean up an outdoor recreation area. The San Juan Stake will provide BBQ hot dogs after this event.

What we will be doing:
• Building the beginnings of a Nature Play area near the picnic tables
• Weed removal from the landscaped area
• General clean-up of the Ancil Hoffman Park area.

Make sure you bring your hat, sunblock and sunglasses. It will be a pretty bright and sunny day!

The Deaf Branch had their annual Camp Nauvoo trip over the summer. It was on September 18th for Luau dinner and then the 19th after a sleep over. There were of about 50 give or take. Thanks to the Stake for allowing us to use the camp site. It is a beautiful place to be. Please give thanks to the branch activity committees for their hard work in the kitchen for prepping and cooking food for everyone.

Deborah Klapheck is survived by her loving husband, Arnold Klapheck and her children Aaron (married to Sarah Lynne), David, and Jared (married to Shani), as well as her Mother-in-law, Patricia Miljarak. She is also missed by her granddaughters, Megan Elisabeth (daughter of Aaron) and Kali (daughter of Jared). She was a native of Sacramento, California.

Deborah will be greatly missed by her family. It was so easy to make her laugh and smile. In us, her love lives on.

Feeling like getting spooky this October? This is the one for you! We will be having a blastful of treats, decorations and competition. Even socializing with monsters, aliens and other strange creatures. It will be on October 30, Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Dress up if you like, but please don't bring mask. You are welcome to face paint though. There will be a chili competition and you are welcome to compete with others. California YSA Conference 2009 COMING UP!!

Please see a website for all of the details. Since we are in the Sacramento area, we will break down to smaller information. This is the state-wide YSA conference for youth age (18-31), including interested friends or families. If you really want to go and want to invite your friend with you, make sure to register online at www.californiaysa.org to purchase a ticket or more. Or click HERE to register for the conference. Do that as soon as you can! Let us know if you need an American Sign Language interpeter and we will set it up. It is Sister Rosanne Johnson at mattrosannejohnson@yahoo.com who is the coordinator of the interpeting program.

What: Speakers, workshops, a humanitarian project and social activities, all focused on (1) reaching out to one another and those around us, (2) becoming better citizens, and (3) living a temple-worthy life.

Why: In an unprecedented move, the priesthood leadership of California -- under the direction of the Area Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints -- has called the young adults of the state to come together in an effort to become spiritually strengthened and more unified.

The Deaf Branch will provide hamburger, buns, condiments, lemonade and water. If everybody else could pitch in and bring whatever they feel would go with hamburgers and lemonade, that would be great. We suggest you can bring chips, salad of any kind, cookies, etc. The benches are first come, first serve basis. So hopefully we'll have the spot when we get there. It is a popular place. You may have to try and find us around that area. We will put up the signs "Deaf Branch BBQ"
Activities at BBQ: Just chillin'. Bring Frisbee, a swimsuit, or whatever you'd like to stay cool and have fun!

The highlighted blue area is Nimbus Flats State Park. The Red lines where follows from where you may be coming from: Orangevale area or Highway 50. We meet at the yellow "x" mark.

Direction: From Orangevale/Fair Oaks/Citrus Heights/Roseville areas, take Hazel Avenue towards Highway 50. When you pass Lake Natoma river on the bridge, turn left onto Natmoa Canal Way. Continue on Folsom Road. Slight left into the parking lot. If you passed Tributary Point Drive and the freeway bridge, you went too far.

From Sacramento/Fairfield/San Francisco areas, continue on Highway 50 until you take Hazel Avenue exit (exit number 21). Turn left on Hazel Avenue (signs for Orangevale). Turn right onto Natoma Canal Way, just after Tributary Point Drive. If you passed Gold Canal Way, you went too far. Then continue on Folsom Road and turn slight left into the parking lot

Remember, if you go to that direction, you'll have to pay $8.00 (just found out today) for parking. But if you park at the Lake Natomas Aquatic Center parking lot and walk to the Natomas Flat State Park (Approximately 0.2 miles) it is free. You can also take lightrail and get off at the Hazel Street Light Rail station (locate on Folsom Blvd.), walk west towards Hazel Avenue. Then when you get to intersection of Hazel Avenue and Folsom Blvd. Go north on Hazel Avenue until you'll see Natoma Canal Way on the right side.

Just a quick reminder that this Sunday is EASTER! I hope that each one of you will come to church on Sunday at 12:20pm. We will be having an amazing hands-on lesson on the atonement of Jesus Christ. I promise that your heart will be touched and you will be able to understand the atonement so clearly if you come on Sunday. It is very important that you show-up on-time since we will be doing this special lesson during Relief Society and Priesthood as well as Sunday School and you won't want to miss it.
I hope that you will take the time to come to church and celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior, the true meaning of Easter.

CANNERY Activity!!! NOTE the TIME CHANGE

WHO: Any and all (12 years old and up) are invited to join us for a fun time at the cannery.

WHAT: We will learn how to can our own emergency food storage. You can purchase #10 cans (the huge cans) of different kinds of food for very cheap. You need to respond ASAP with your food orders and RSVP so we can plan ahead.

WHEN: Saturday, March 28th. We will meet at the cannery at 11am and eat lunch (provided by the branch) then start canning at noon.

Break-the-Fast Potluck

February is already around the corner! We will be having our Break-the-Fast potluck after church this coming Sunday, February 1st. Bring a dish to share will all and join us for an hour of social and chat.

Often, this once a month Sunday gathering, becomes a watering hole for visitors and friends from outside the stake or ward boundaries to catch up on the news in the branch. People come from as far as Stockton or Santa Clara. So do drop by for a visit.

A movie room will be set up for the kiddies (with a huge screen!), so be sure to bring pillows and blankets.

Hello all!

As you can see, the deaf branch is going techno! After much discussion, setting up a blog site seemed to be the best road to take in keeping the deaf community informed of the branch's upcoming activities and news, and yet allow for your comments.

This site is meant to be informative, as well as a gathering place for members and friends of the Sacramento area deaf branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You do not have to be a member of the church to attend our activities or services. Nor do you have to be a member of the branch/church to post a comment. All interested are welcome.

Your comments, however, should be posted in the spirit of friendship. Any that reflect otherwise run the risk of being removed.
